I first met Sami Jo in 2015 in New Orleans, and I was immediately struck by her pink hair, calm demeanor, and fairy-like presence. Over the years I've been delighted to get to know Sami and her work more and more, and I'm always so inspired by her passion for her work, and dedication to creating well-crafted and thoughtful products that are as human- and Earth-friendly as they possibly can be, without sacrificing the experience of using and benefiting from them.
Introduce yourself and tell us about the work that you do.
Hi! I’m Sami Jo Jensen, a budding herbalist and freelance marketing and branding consultant. (I always joke that because I’m a Gemini, I needed two businesses) I’m the founder of florapothecarie, my line of 100% natural and vegan skincare, body, and bath products.
What do you love most about your work?
I love helping other women embrace their natural beauty and the power of plants to help them take time for self-care. There is a lot of toxicity thrown at us these days (toxic chemicals, toxic words, toxic people), so my mission is to help my fellow humans ditch toxicity and embrace nature. I really love being a part of someone else’s self-love and self-care routines. And, I totally love using all of my products myself of course! Especially my bath goodies.
What inspires you?
Fresh flowers, walks in the woods, burning candles, reading, reading, reading. I can’t tell you how many books I am reading right now because I switch between so many depending on my mood and what I’d like to learn. But I always come back and finish them… eventually! I’m also inspired by other women entrepreneurs and makers. I love meeting up with fellow lady bosses and always come home overflowing with ideas.
Have any words of advice you’d like to share?
Slow down and take care of yourself. Spend time with positive people who love you and believe in you. (Believe me, I need to remember this too!)
